1936 Underwood 4-Bank - RARE Large Typeface (6CPI)

$695.00

This is a 1936 Underwood Universal, a rather ordinary portable typewriter. This particular example is no ordinary Universal. Featuring an extremely rare large typeface, clocking in at six characters per inch! Most typewriters have 10, or 12 characters per inch. As far as I know, this is the ONLY Underwood Universal from this generation, with a 6CPI typeface.

I’ve gone through and fully cleaned, and serviced this machine. These Underwood portables can be quite the challenge to service. Sometimes it feels like they were engineered to be difficult. That being said, all those hours were well worth the effort. This is one of the nicest 4-Banks I’ve had my hands on. There’s a couple scuffs on the right side of the machine, beyond that, the visual condition is incredible.

These large typefaces are just as useful, as they are cool. I’ve used mine for a significant amount of the labeling for my personal collection. Lots of tags for the cases, and labels for my display machines. It’s also quite handy for addressing envelopes.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have!
